Ken BonsteinKen Bonstein is currently a fifth grade teacher at State Street School in Brewer, Maine. He spent 22 years in New Jersey as a 6th grade teacher and assistant superintendent. His love of the outdoors prompted him to relocate to Maine where he and his wife had spent their summer vacations for 13 years. At that point he returned to his first love, the classroom, as a gifted and talented coordinator for William Cohen Middle School in Bangor. After 2 years in Bangor, he took his current position with the Brewer School Department. Brewer was looking for a way to infuse character education into its curriculum, and chose the Community of Caring program as the means to that end.

Ken was a member of the original coordinating committee and is presently the coordinator of that group. He has participated in trainings up and down the East Coast, presented at the CoC National Conference in Boston, spoken with school districts in Maine that were interested in adopting CoC, and coordinated numerous events in which Brewer's CoC program was involved. In 2004 he was a recipient of the Community of Caring Lifetime Achievement Award. Ken is a Registered Maine Guide and spends his free time outdoors at Shagbark Tree Farm with Rosemary and their chocolate lab, Maggie.
